Ethelwold

Ethelwold
(c. 908– 84)
   Saint and Bishop.
Ethelwold was a monk at Glastonbury. He was elected Abbot of Abingdon and from 963 he was Bishop of Winchester. He is remembered for his connection with St dunstan and St oswald and he was largely responsible for the monastic reform of the tenth century. He is thought to have been the author of the Regularis Concordia, which was approved at the Synod of Winchester. Its provisions follow the Rule of St Benedict and were influenced by the reforms of Cluny and by the customs of the monastic houses of Ghent and Fleury.
